Below you will find the oils that we use and love (or are growing to love) in our home.  We want to share them with you as we are sure that you will love them too!  

Peppermint Essential Oil

In our home we use peppermint oil for headaches and muscle pain mostly.  It's a great pick-me-up throughout the day and all the children love to have peppermint.  One thing we haven't tried yet, but want to is to put peppermint oil in our hot cocoa.

Peppermint (Mentha piperita) has a strong, clean, fresh, minty aroma. One of the oldest and most highly regarded herbs for soothing digestion, it may also restore digestive efficiency.* Jean Valnet MD studied peppermint's supportive effect on the liver and respiratory systems. Other scientists have also researched peppermint's role in improving taste and smell when inhaled. Dr. William N. Dember of the University of Cincinnati studied peppermint's ability to improve concentration and mental sharpness. Alan Hirsch MD studied peppermint's ability to directly affect the brain's satiety center, which triggers a sensation of fullness after meals. This powerful essential oil is often diluted before topical application. Peppermint may also be used to enhance the flavor of food and water. Peppermint has an approximate ORAC of 373,455 (TE/L). TE/L is expressed as micromole Trolox equivalent per liter.

So far I have used lavender oil for itchy skin, to help the children (and myself) relax at bedtime, in our bath water and for a stomach issue.  Lavender is not a favorite in this house, yet, but it is growing on us.  I love the effect at bedtime, but not the smell.

Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) has a fresh, sweet, floral, herbaceous aroma that is soothing and refreshing. Because it is the most versatile of all essential oils, no home should be without it. Lavender is an adaptogen, and therefore can assist the body when adapting to stress or imbalances. It is a great aid for relaxing and winding down before bedtime, yet has balancing properties that can also boost stamina and energy. Therapeutic-grade lavender is highly regarded for skin and beauty. It may be used to soothe and cleanse common cuts, bruises, and skin irritations. The French scientist René Gattefossé was among the first to discover these properties when he was severely burned in a laboratory explosion. Lavender may also be used to enhance the flavor of foods. Lavender has an approximate ORAC of 3,669 (TE/L). TE/L is expressed as micromole Trolox equivalent per liter.


Peace & Calming Essential Oil Blend

I think that this is our most favorite oil blend.  Wyatt asks for it regularly at bedtime.  Other times I "hand out" Peace & Calming is during the "witching hour" (right before supper) and at clean up times.  

Peace & Calming® is a gentle, fragrant blend. When diffused, it helps calm tensions and uplift the spirit, promoting relaxation and a deep sense of peace. When massaged on the bottoms of the feet, it can be a wonderful prelude to a peaceful night's rest. Peace & Calming may be especially calming and comforting to young children after an overactive and stressful day.






Thieves Essential Oil Blend

This blend gets lots of use in our home, too.  My husband works in a public ice rink and is in contact many germs of many different kinds.  The children and I will often visit him there and so we are bringing home these bugs.  Thieves is supposed to help boost the immune system and help our bodies fight these infections.  My dh was fighting a serious sinus infection.  Antibiotics had helped some, but Thieves did more and faster than the "drugs" the doctor gave him.  I also used some on our baby's feet when he had a runny nose for days and days.  Within two days of using Thieves on him, his runny nose was cleared up.
